Olympique Lyonnais is very pleased to announce that Marcelo, the Brazilian centre-back from Besiktas, has signed a three-year contract with OL.
The amount of the transfer is €7 million, which could be increased by a maximum of €500,000 in incentives.
Aged 30, Marcelo will start his fifth season in Europe since leaving Santos in August 2008. He has played nearly 300 matches with Wisla Krakow, PSV Eindhoven, Hannover and most recently Besiktas, where he was on two championship teams and played the quarter-final Europa League matches against Olympique Lyonnais.
Florian Maurice, recruiting manager, said, "Marcelo is a perfect match for our needs. He is an experienced defender, a natural leader, quick, dynamic, able to counterattack and also very good in the air."
Arriving just after Fernando Marçal, Ferland Mendy and Kenny Tete, Marcelo will help the club achieve its goal of renewing the defensive sector, organised around talented young players from some of Europe's most prominent clubs as well as more experienced players.
Marcelo will be presented to the media on Monday 17 July 2017 at 3:45 pm at the Groupama OL Training Center auditorium, accompanied by Jean-Michel Aulas, Bruno Genesio and Florian Maurice.
